More than any other American city, San Francisco was the mecca for the anarcho punk scene during the early and mid 80’s. When I was 14/15, I made my move up to SF from Los Angeles, and when I look back on it, this move changed the way I looked at the world and my part in it. The first thing that impressed me about the scene up there was the sense of community that all the SF punks shared. It went way beyond music – it seemed like the punks were family. Crucifix was the glue that brought all of the other bands together. When I first heard Crucifix, they blew my mind – it felt like these humans lived everything they sung about 100%. Also, as musicians, these dudes brought the ruckus and everyone gave them respect because Crass signed them. During this period, my friend Drew, who would later adopt me, became their guitar player. While Crucifix was on tour in Europe, Drew amassed killer photos and other images that Cvlt Nation would like to share with you today. The spirit of 1984 is one of the driving forces of this webzine, and unity amongst the outcasts is still important to me. Crucifix were stellar performers, which can be seen in this vintage clip of them killing shit in 1984. After the jump peep some USA anarcho punk ourstory!
