Last November, Bosse-de-Nage opened for Swedish Black Metal band Marduk in San Francisco. I was at a different show in Oakland that night, and ran back across the Bay to catch Withered and Marduk. When I showed up to the venue, Bosse-de-Nage were still playing, and I caught their last song and a half. I didn’t get up close and I didn’t pull out my camera. I just sort of stood and watched. I wasn’t sure what I was seeing, but by the end of the night I knew I was more intrigued by that last song and a half than the full sets of the latter two bands.
November 2010 was the last time Bosse-de-Nage played live. The group rarely plays and is generally very elusive. They released an album titled ii (reviewed here), and it’s one of my favorites of the year. I had been listening to the album constantly and was thrilled to see that the band would be playing a sort of Flenser Records showcase at the Hemlock Tavern in SF. This time I brought my camera and a huge amount of anticipation. Bosse-de-Nage did not disappoint.
