Talking about Netherlands, well I don’t know shit about the goth/post-punk scene over there. I’ve heard about the ‘artsy’ Dutch post-punk movement in the early 80’s called Ultra, but shame on me I haven’t dug the bands involved. Even if someone ask what’s my fav Dutch goth/post-punk band, well fuck me! I can only mention the legendary Clan Of Xymox, and the unknown Qua Dance. Speaking about the last name, fans of Siouxsie or Xmal Deutschland might dig this female fronted post-punk band. Not much info can be found about this band, they only released one 7″ single titled “A Heart/Fallbreak” (two tracks single, produced by Michiel Hoogenboezem) on Top Hole Records in 1982. And their last known line up was Huib Westerbaan (bass), Roel Steenbeek (drums), Kees Douma (guitar) and Marieke Smit (vocals). Unlike other post-punk bands, this has band got a more ‘acoustic’ approach. Forget the ‘lo-fi’ distortions, this is an ‘unplugged goth’ band! I love Marieke’s vocals, so powerful and haunting. Listen to “A Heart”, dare I say they’ve got what I call ‘funky bass lines’. While the other track “Fallbreak” (which is the last track) has a ‘minimalist’ guitar strumming, creating a more gloomy feeling than the first track. I’d love to hear more, too bad these are the only songs they ever released (or even made maybe?). Well enjoy the tunes, right after the jump!
