Now let’s go back to the last day of 1983…I didn’t know that I was going to see one of my favorite bands totally wreck shit, so when it did occur, I almost lost it! It was New Year’s Eve ’83 – my homie David and I were walking the streets of Santa Monica with 40s in our hand. Then all of a sudden, a car pulls up behind us; we dash the 40s because we thought it was the cops, but it was David’s older brother, who instructed us to “jump in the motherfucking car.” I was like, where are we going, and he screamed, “the Dead Kennedys FOOL.” We got there in time to catch Code of Honor, which was epic. but everybody was there to see one band. At the strike of 12 o’clock, all you could hear was “Now it is 1984…Knock Knock at Your Front Door,” then the whole venue turned into a huge pit of teenage angst! On the real, this was one of the sickest gigs I have ever been to, and it was one of my favorite New Years Eves. What did the DK’s meant to me and my friends? They were our home-grown CRASS, and between both of these bands they opened our eyes to what was happening around us. I’m not sure if he gets the credit he deserves, but Jello was one of illest frogmen to ever do it, hands down. As a band the Dead Kennedys were on other level – they were all ultra gnarly musicians that brought fire to every performance, and D.H. was a monster on drums.
