Purveyor of fine metal photography ; fine metal blogs, SFsludge; and fine metal artwork – San Francisco’s Bryan Proteau is all of the above. Today we are here to talk about his illustration – his pen-and-ink drawings that invoke a sense of melancholy darkness in your soul. Proteau’s drawings are deceivingly simple, and yet communicate on an almost unconscious level with the observer. Some of his work is heavily detailed, creating beautiful, crisp landscapes, and in some he reigns in his detailing and brings your focus to the subject. The emotional quality of his work means that he has the ability to create intense 2-dimensional movement, where you can feel the breath of smoke from the Devil’s mouth or the sparks flying from the demon cat’s head. One of his most recent drawings was picked up for SF funeral doom/sludge band Lycus’ demo, and I have a feeling that we will be seeing his work in notable places over the next few years. His Tumblr is relatively new, so I pretty much pulled everything from it to show you. I am really looking forward to the future of his artwork. After the jump, check out Bryan Proteau’s illustration…
