Lunar Jetman
PHARAOH OVERLORD
Review

As I worship at the altar of the psychedelic moonrise, I let the vibrations of Pharaoh Overlord expand my mind. This Finnish band have reshaped sound with their soon to be released album Lunar Jetman via Sige Records. To say that they have created a sonic kaleidoscope of instrumental majesty would be putting it lightly. Every song is it’s own planet that orbits around the cosmic sun that Pharaoh Overlord has suspended in the atmosphere. This is not a record that is supposed to just be heard – Lunar Jetman is a piece of music that should be felt. Personally, I’m amazed at how this band speaks so many different unique languages with their instruments. The first two minutes of their song “Rodent” is a sweet siren calling all spirit walkers to rise again. Every time I hear this song I put my bong down, because I know that Pharaoh Overlord is about to get me high as fuck with audio stimulation! For their second song, “Palmyra Call.” Pharaoh Overlord swings the pendulum and decides to put the mask of jazz on their rhythm, but Captain Psychedelic is still controlling this spaceship. The band breaks shit down to the abstract nitty gritty on the track “Black Horse,” and all sorts of weird creatures are alive in this song. It’s a demented joy to listen to this all take place before the tune transforms into one of sickest riffs known to humanity. What stands out to me every time I play Lunar Jetman is that I feel the fun this band has manifesting their dreams on to wax and you can’t help but respect the process. It’s really enjoyable to allow the dirge of their composition “Cave of Hair” to engulf my skull with all of its magic. I suggest when you put on Lunar Jetman to wipe the slate clean, because with this band you will be starting at zero and the only place to travel is up. For 1 hour 12 minutes, Pharaoh Overlord will be your kind into another solar systems of riffs, rhythm and outergaltic baselines…1, 2, 3 lift OFF!
