1983, the year that punks started listening to metal. It all started with Motorhead – they were the first metal band that was cool for punks to be into. Then we heard Venom & the rest was history! SoCal punks & SoCal metal heads started seeing more eye to eye. S.F really set it off with Metallica & Exodus. I feel pretty lucky, I got to witness a killer Exodus gig in 1984 @ the Mab on Broadway. Speed metal, as we called it, spread all over the world with force thanx to Slayer, Anthrax & Possessed! Looking back, it was awesome the way that both movements of outsiders united to headbang as one! Get Thrashed is a must see documentary that came out 2007.
