Chadwick St. John is Inkshadows, and his ink lifts darkness off the page into your world. He opens a window into a cold, mystical landscape, inhabited by by the creatures of myth and story. Each stroke of his pen tells a tale to the viewer, but his meaning is not transparent; rather it imprints itself on your subconsciousness with wild eyes and gaping maws. There is a furious movement in his work – contemplating these images I feel a sense of being surrounded, caught in their thick atmosphere, my feet mired in their rooted pathways. Fear is a tangible emotion in St. John’s artwork, he communicates terror very effectively with his lines. The terror is less an external threat than it is an internal struggle, one which makes you feel trapped in your own mind by invisible forces, but you still feel the chill down your spine. After the jump, explore the works of Inkshadows.
