If you were to ask an L.A punk from the 80’s about going to shows, certain places will always be connected to their memory – Cathy De Grande, Perkins Palace, the almighty Olympic Auditorium and Fenders – but there was one promoter that reigned supreme: Goldenvoice. We knew who our enemies were; we hated Ronald, Margret, Nuclear War, Animal Testing and Apartheid. We started to get more politicized with time, and took to heart the lyrics of Crass and our homegrown bands Christ on Parade, Crucifix, Social Unrest, Iconoclast and Sleeping Dogs. In 1985, CONFLICT came to the shores of the USA and woke motherfuckers up! Goldenvoice put on a killer show at Fenders with them, and lucky for all of us the whole show was captured on film. Keep in mind, this was 1985, so to make this happen they had to use some big cameras – hats off to Gary Tovar for making sure our history was filmed for generations to come! When I watch this footage, it takes me back in time, but it also makes me realize just how stellar CONFLICT was live. They blazed through a set that whipped these young Southern California punks into a frenzy! So before and after the jump, witness how CONFLICT set Los Angeles ablaze in 1985. I must salute the real Goldenvoice one more time for impacting the lives of so many young people back then – they were the people who understood our angst! THE STRUGGLE CONTINUES!
