I won’t front, I had a love & hate relationship with the BONES BRIGADE skate team in the 80’s. There were elements of the team that I really respected, but other elements I just couldn’t relate to, but I give them mad respect for picking skaters that represented the real face of American skating. The BONES BRIGADE was totally interracial, and one of the first teams to have a pro African American skater, plus some of their star skaters were latino. During the time when I was all into Dogtown skaters, I still couldn’t deny that Steve Caballero, Tommy Guerrero, Lance Mountain and Steve Steadman all were killer skaters. Powell Peralta had a special way of making the kids buy into their brand. Looking back, the BONES team marked an era of skateboarding that will never be forgotten. Respect due to Steve Caballero for being a part of the skate rock band The Faction, which I saw live, and they were pretty rad! Then there was Tommy, who helped push San Francisco street skating to a whole other level, and could always be seen skating the SF streets with no ego at all. It’s safe to say that without the BONES BRIGADE era, skating wouldn’t be what it is today. This is why CVLT Nation would like to celebrate the BONES team with a huge photo gallery of Steve Caballero, Tommy Guerrero and Lance Mountain after the jump, plus a killer video surprise!

Used to watch all of the Bones Brigade videos back in the 80’s like they were LAW. I had just about every Powell/Bones Brigade Thrasher ad on my wall at one time. I was so damned star-struck when a few guys from the BB team came through my town in Louisiana for a demo. Thanks for the flashbacks, especially for posting the video.
