Fuck Authority…
AMERICAN HARDCORE Documentary
Now Showing

For kids by kids, fuck authority, let’s create our brand new normal…we were the brand new minority…we were American Hardcore. In 2001, Steven Blush came out with a very interesting book, American Hardcore: A Tribal History, where he took a very detailed look at the birth of the hardcore movement nationwide. I must say that I read the book & I found it very thought-provoking – it was pretty rad to read about the culture that changed my life. Some people from the scene found fault with the book, but I think Blush did a good job actually documenting the movement, but I think to give real insight into the movement, each city would have to have its’ own book. The hardcore punk movement of the 80’s had so many layers that it could never be covered in just one book. Then, in 2007, Steven Blush brought the book to life as a film called American Hardcore: The History of the American Punk Rock 1980-1986, directed by Paul Rachman. The film as a historical document is good, but there again, so much ground has to be covered that I would like to see another film to made to cover the people & events that were missed the first time around. On the real, I’m happy that someone got off their asses & at least made this film. American Hardcore the film does a great job at explaining the roots of the movement, plus it gives you a look at the evironment that this scene was born out of. In my opinion, this was one of the most important American subcultures born in the last century, & its legacy will live on forever – you can still see its ghost in the underground today. So today CVLT Nation is happy to bring you American Hardcore the film. After the jump, get your slam dance on & peep some epic flicks from the era as well.
