What happens when members of Neurosis, Filth, Dystopia and punk’s most infamous roadie ‘Pete the Roadie’ who is well known for touring with the Subhumans, Amebix and Neurosis, get together. Well it’s certainly not grinding crust, it’s pure filthy 100% two fingers in the air punk rock. United in Oakland by filthy and grimey diy punk in 2010, they have released three ep’s so far. And now here is the debut album ‘Not You’ on Tankcrimes.
After years of touring since day one with the Subhumans by Pete, it has had an influence on the sound. With malintent in their hearts, the music is stripped-down, bashed out fast with snotty vocals from Pete who sings with real fucking hate, this man is seriously pissed off. The lyrics are very much about the things that piss everyone off, straight to the point stuff, no money, boredom, job etc. In saying that there is a lot of humour on here too, from singing about a utopian island for crusty punks where all the gigs and booze is free. Other lyrics are purely about ordering a round of lager and chips. The song ‘Broke’ has to be mentioned for a hilarious voice over of a classic old drunken punk who is pissed as a fart.
At times Dave Ed’s (Neurosis) bass riffs have a great climbing Rudimentary Peni or Crass styling about them. With great guitar from Matt (Mauz) Parrillo (Dystopia) whose riffs at times are reminiscent of the Subhumans, Crass and of course his own. But obviously there is great variation on here too by all. This all fixed in place by Toby Bitter on drums (Filth).
The cover also is spectacular and illustrated by Mike Sutfin who used to be in Charles Bronson and has previously done artwork for 9 Shocks Terror, Capitalist Casualties, Spazz and loads more. And really captures the punk sound of the band. The album is released on November 6, 2012 via Tankcrimes Records.
THIS IS REAL PUNK ROCK.
