Dreamcatcher…Heinali and Matt Finney Review

If wind had a face, could take the shape of our emotions, could transform into sound – it would take the shape of Heinali and Matt Finney. These two humans create sonic magic with their bleak ambient soundscapes. Recently, they made music for the opening of Olia Pischanska’s photo exhibition, both entitled “Dreamcatcher”. This 30-minute composition can act as a time machine for your imagination to travel beyond any known place or universe because of the sense of freedom that this song evokes. Heinali and Matt Finney have figured out a way to layer small sounds into one huge pillar of emotional audio statue. To me, the music that these two special humans make is all about the way want you to dream. Within that state of mind, there is tension & drama that keeps your attention. Heinali and Matt Finney’s “Dreamcatcher” has this rad organic vibe about it, but then at the same time an urban rage can be heard stalking the sense of peace. The awesome creepy bits are when they bring in really well-placed & thought-provoking spoken word. Heinali and Matt Finney are a killer example of how quiet can be just as heavy as loud! To fully experience their world, go HERE so you can hear a brand new normal…oh yeah, don’t forget your spliff!
