Descent into the Maelstrom…
Cultus Sabbati Review

Have you ever been to a place where you can hear the voices of insects, or hear the grass grow around you? One band that brings these sounds to life is Cultus Sabbati on their new album, Descent into the Maelstrom, out soon via Land of Decay & Buh Records, and it is sonic ghostly havoc. To me, their music is really fascinating because of the way they mutilate small fragments of sound and reshape them into these monolithic structures of audio torment that totally communicate messages to the listener. Cultus Sabbati’s songs remind me of humanity because of their constant evolving & transformation, which are things that we all go through from the time was are born. They are wizards at creating tension, but inside of this is tranquility & space where your thoughts can travel beyond just your normal reality. The music pulsates to the point where you began to feel like they are connecting to the rhythm of your heartbeat & vital organs. This band hits you on many levels you will feel their music floating around in your body & soul. They also rework what we call heavy music – they have created a super dense album in Descent into the Maelstrom. With electronics & organic instruments this group has been able to manifest what the unheard sounds of nature might sound like. Maybe Cultus Sabbati is a drug, because this band has the power to induce strange unexplanable feelings that some humans only feel when they are high. While I’m not on drugs right now, I really do dig the way that Descent into the Maelstrom has me feeling – I might even join the Cultus Sabbati.
