I’m worshipping at the altar of doom, and below me I hear the sound of the Serpentine Path shattering sound waves. This band is releasing an outstanding 7″ on Parasitic Records this month, and every thing about this record is huge and damaged. When you put your needle down on this piece of wax, 13 minutes of slow-moving, cryptic audio frequencies will take over your reality. As you listen to Serpentine Path, the light around you will become darker and you will start having visions of humanity’s demise. Their music has been touched by the hand of evil – it’s hard to put into words, but there is something very ancient about their sound. I almost feel like Serpentine Path are trying to communicate with an unknown force of darkness, and command it with their bass tons of gloom. Their music does not come at you, but will surround your whole existence. When you allow their song “Erebus” to blast through your speakers, the riffs will transform into huge rock formations with druids standing all around them. On top of dirty, doom-laden bass, Serpentine Path’s vocals speak a language that only the dwellers of hades could understand. The drums on this 7″ have a creepy, magical energy about them, plus they have the power to wake the giants of the underworld. Whereas most doom is based in the blues, Serpentine Path’s music has its roots in something far more sinister. Their songs are like tunnels that lead your thoughts into places you might not want to go. That record is a mammoth testament to how doom can be used as a instrument of hate against the dumb, deaf and blind. I like to be high when I listen to Serpentine Path, but that being said, this band is a killer come down!

Its no wonder Serpentine Path is so amazing when you look at the members and the bands they come from. I am definitely looking forward to a full length. The 7″ will have to keep me amused til then. This is evil transformed into music. I love it
