Community + Unity + Creativity + Underground + Determination + Passion = some of the words that come to mind when I think of the Videographer//Photographer Kevin Hobbs. This human is a part of the CVLT Nation extended family for sure, and I’m totally amazed at his effort at making sure that the underground Bay Area music scene is being documented. Trust me, 20 years from now we will be thanking him for the rad work he is putting in now. Why do I say this? I have seen scenes not get documented the right way, and then years later, people are kicking themselves, saying how rad things once were, but they have no way of proving how rad things were. The other thing about Kevin that makes what he is doing so special is that he is not just giving shine to the bands that you have heard of, but to the bands that you have not heard of yet, but soon you will be. I also have to give it up to all of the bands in the Bay Area who are putting the hours into practicing and coming up with highly original tunes. These bands are doing what they are doing, not for money, but because it’s a part of who they are. So check this out, a week or so ago there was this epic festival that took place in Oakland at the Church of the Buzzard called Deadfest, where Kevin was on hand and captured extra awesome sets from Burial Tide, Lycus, Bruxers, Monuments Collapse, Arrastrados and Cold Blue Mountains. I have watched all of these videos more than a couple of times, and every time I say to myself, wow, sick, wish I was there! What really gets me going about this footage is that none of these bands sound the same, and they are are fucking fantastic! So after the jump, here is your chance to go to Oaktown without having to get on a plane: enjoy the footage, I know you will!

MAJOR thanx to Gregg Deadface for putting all this together. He had 2 nights in a row with like 30 bands in 30 hours, and pulled it off flawlessly. Even keeping such an event running on schedule is all but impossible, yet everything was flawless. This 2-day event would not have happened without him 🙂
THANK YOU GREGG!!

This show and weekend definitely ruled. All of the bands really stepped up and showed what community is all about in our scene.
This was actually a two day festival. The next day took place at the Oakland Metro and over 20 Grind bands from all over came in and performed back to back from 4 till midnight. An epic weekend. Gregg, of The Burial Tide/[Your Enemy] should certainly be commended for all of his hard work with trying to create a really awesome scene. The proceeds from the show went to friends, Transient, to help them out as they recently were in an accident on tour that financially and bandwise set them back. This whole weekend was dedicated in helping out DIY and it was certainly a success. Next year’s Deadfest is something im definitely look forward to.
