CODE ORANGE KIDS
Review

Something massive and large is going down in November: Pittsburgh’s Code Orange Kids are dropping a killer 7″, Cycles, on Mayfly Records (pre-order HERE). All sorts of rad words come to my mind when I think about this band, and these five songs pack a super amount of that awesomeness. The first word is courage, because the Code Orange Kids could have just made the same gnarly record they made last time, and that would have cool. But they decided to really go for it and push themselves and their sound to another level of change. As I said in my first review of this band, they are more than a group to me, they represent a movement unto themselves – I don’t have to ask, the Code Orange Kids are here to stay. The title track “CYCLES” is a fucking monster – it only takes two seconds to realize that this tune could slap the taste out of King Kong’s mouth, and it sets the pace for what is about to come! It’s the third song, “SALVAGE//FOLD,” that makes you scratch your head and say, damn, these kids are on some next shit. Code Orange Kids turned up the dirge emotion factor with this set of songs, which allows the music to go deeper into the listeners being. These humans really fucking grew on the songwriting tip balancing power with cryptic melody that induces black clouds of bliss. What makes this band so rad is that they are really a unit – no person or instrument outshines the other, because they are all unified with the same mission to wreck shit! Code Orange Kids have taken the genre of hardcore and have done what every smart band does: injected with it’s own smart personality and influences. Honestly, I feel honored to to be able to hear and see this band grow from release to release. Do the right thing, get your hands on this 7″ because it’s only the beginning cycle of things to come!
