HUATA//BITCHO Split
Are you ready to re-enter a psychedelic state of mind? The split record between Huata and Bitcho will be the perfect companion for your trip to places where gravity has no place and time has no meaning. Three songs from the two bands are paying homage to the psychedelic side of doom, filled with great synth sounds that will make your head spin, dreamy voices and heavy riffs.
So to break it down: Huata contribute two songs to this split album, the fifteen-minute long “The Retaliator,” with its majestic heavy sound, the 60s and 70s influenced groove and the vocals buried deep in the mix, completely out of this world sonic manipulation of synths to create an unworldly ambience that will entrap the listener with its mesmerizing quality. The repetitive themes also assist the hypnotic process; an almost Sleep-ish (from the Jerusalem era) feeling overflows from the song. The second offering of Huata is a heavier, more compact track. Still in the same style but maybe focusing a bit more on their heavy guitars and sludge background than on their psychedelic elements, which are still obviously there (and quite noticeable), but they are not the main focus of the track…Full CVLT Nation Review HERE!
4. WHITEHORSE//NEGATIVE STANDARDS Split
They did it. The Bay Area’s finest neo-crust band – Negative Standards – and Australia’s most hideous sludge doom ordeal – Whitehorse – have come together for a release so grand, dark and fucking devastating that it almost feels like the end of the world, and the most dystopian of fates has fucking time traveled or something and come back from the future to waste us on the spot and end our sorry existence right fucking now. What we love about this split is the diversity in sounds and musical approaches it offers and how it brings together two extremely unique and quite different bands to paint a much broader and more threatening sonic picture for us to look at as a total. Both bands are unique in their own – and sometimes opposite – ways, but combined by friendship, common intents and the purest of musical visions, they have paved the way to an absolutely annihilating release that from start to finish transcends the two souls that comprise it and just goes fucking beyond, way beyond…Full CVLT Nation Review HERE!
3. BONGRIPPER//HATE Split
What’s that up in the sky? It’s my high! I just inhaled 11 minutes of the new BONGRIPPER song “Fisting.” This song is taken from their soon to be released split with HATE, coming out via The Great Barrier Records (order HERE & pay what you want link HERE). Both bands rip a hole in Lower Earth with their maniacal audio assault on your senses. This BONGRIPPER and HATE split has only enhanced the effects of their THC death blow to my brain. We are super stoked to be streaming this blackened, resinated record in full below…

2. ENSORCELOR//MOLOCH Split
Canadian blackened doom quintet Ensorcelor have teamed up with UK punk infused sludge act Moloch to create what could possibly be described as the greatest fucking thing to ever be created in the history of things that have ever been fucking created. On just about every split there is always one band that stands above the others, be it through a more concise recording, or just sheer talent, we rarely get to see multiple outstanding artists on a single release…until now. The tandem energy these two bands utilize create the flowing atmosphere that makes this album one that is engaging, encapsulating, and just as intriguing no matter how many times you spin it.
Ensorcelor comes out first with a creeping display of sundering lows that are veritably torn apart by harsh vocal onsets and haunting melodies that carry an uneasy feeling throughout the entirety of their 20 minute offering. Trapping a landscape that differs its way from a blackened pool of infinitesimal hate into a realm of endless sadness and confusion. Allowing for a more emotionally rapturing soundscape to pour into the empty spaces of silence that surround and convey while still retaining the reflecting overtone of utter and complete irrelevance. The track bores its way into your subconscious and delves into what would remain after all sorrow has subsided, a full on confrontation between body, mind, and soul. The song fades into a harmonious departure that does not end but simply stops, leaving no room for your senses to return before the next track begins. Full CVLT Nation Review HERE!

1. Cough//Windhand Reflections of the Negative Split
There’s something about Richmond, Virginia that seems to result in the bands that are born there being, more often than not, pretty damn excellent. Cough and Windhand are certainly no exception to this rule and this split sees their different takes on filthy, droned out doom take on new dimensions of deadly corruption.
Reflections of the Negative showcases these two bands at their absolute most dangerous. Whilst they both sit within the realm of doom, Cough and Windhand are divided by structures and ritualistic vibrations. Cough delve deeply into the ceremonial aspect of the genre whilst Windhand are more traditionally inclined with their smoky acknowledgement of the greats…Full CVLT Nation Review HERE!
