This week I decided to focus on photographers I follow on Instagram. While I am interested in people’s daily lives, I really appreciate when a person posts poignant imagery, esoteric flicks that are just cool to look at. One person I started following at the very beginning is Seattle photographer Alan Hunter. He has contributed a lot of really awesome photos to the site, plus we did a photo t-shirt collaboration with him, so I was already familiar with him. His Instagram follows him camping in the damp and thickly forested Northwest (which I miss very much, now being SoCal city dweller). I get my fill of rainforest and Seattle scenery, but Alan has a way of creating an intimate feel rather than a calendar one. My next new favorite Instagram is Swedish photographer Christine Linde aka Tómarúm, who also takes pictures of forests, country and animals, but her photos have a very Swedish Black Metal feel to them – cold, crisp and dreamy at the same time. Her photos have a darkness to them, and they draw you in, focusing your attention on one small detail in a vast scene. They are delicate and beautiful in their contrast and editing…someone I have to get on a Seven Stories feature for sure! My final favorite photographer this week is a bit of comic relief, Doug Rickard. Doug Rickard has a long and illustrious career as a photographer, but his Instagram is dedicated to his These Americans project, a collection of vintage photography documenting the wacky people of America. He has polaroids and photos of bondage and diapers, weddings, arm wrestling, strippers, street shots and so much more spanning the past century. Check out all of these photographers below!
