A couple of weeks ago, we covered the new Through Smoke and Feathers cassette from THOABATH, a project of Sutekh Hexen’s Andy Way. THOABATH is a sound that is hard to define; as our writer Mattia put it, “at its most disgusting and atrocious, this music has the violence and intensity of a nightmare trying to burst from your skull from the inside out. The sounds crafted by Way on Through Smoke and Feathers can literally rattle your skull and drill into your brain with the force and precision of a surgical tool.” It just so happens that Way collaborated with a photographer that we’ve featured and worked with at CVLT Nation, Sarah Rosalena Brady, on a twisted and strange video for his track “T.’.T.’.” off the cassette, and we’re happy to be able to premiere it for them right here and now. Brady filmed this at the notorious occult landmark the Devil’s Gate near the Arroyo Seco canyon in California, a supposed portal to Hell opened by rocket scientist Jack Parsons and L. Ron Hubbard. Parsons was a forerunner of NASA’s jet propulsion program, and an avid follower of Aleister Crowley and member of Ordo Templi Orientis along with Hubbard. It is rumoured (starting with Crowley) that the power of Parsons’ and Hubbard’s rituals caused the portal to open (source). With Parsons as her muse, Brady captured this seemingly innocuous location in a way that brings its occult significance to the forefront. Watching it, paired with the eerie music of THOABATH, is like having a vision induced by hallucinogenics and ritual. Turn off the lights and enjoy a weird/wonderful experience…
