The night was Feb. 26th, and I was going out to see OLD MAN GLOOM & BAPTISTS wreck shop at the Electric Owl here in Vancouver. My night started off right, because my loving wife hooked me up with a potent chocolate THC brownie that would help my mind get to a place where riffs are ear candy! While walking to the venue, the power of the edible started to kick in and TEMPLE NIGHTSIDE was sounding surreal against what I was seeing in the real world.
Right when I walked in, the sonic force named BAPTISTS were kicking out their incendiary tunes that had my body moving back and forth uncontrollably! This band live is a sonic whirlwind that can not be stopped. What’s special about BAPTISTS? Their musicianship is on a level that is very hard to even put into words. The four humans that make up this band give it their all every second they are on stage! Watching them is like watching a riot happen at the speed of meth, because at any moment you think all hell is going to break loose! BAPTISTS is a unit that have decided to leave their mark on heavy music and they are doing a great job!
OLD MAN GLOOM is one those bands that mean so much to me, because at the point in my life when I got turned on to them I was at a dark place, and they guided me out of it. Seeing them live has been on my wish list for a while now, and tonight was the night! I stood at the very back of the venue, right in the center, which gave my ear drums the best acoustics. These primates created a WALL OF HEAVY that could never be climbed. While watching them blow all of the minds that were there to witness their first Canadian show ever, I said to myself that OLD MAN GLOOM create Sonic Doom Caviar that leaves the listener salivating for more!!! While they performed, the room felt their mammoth levels of passion. OLD MAN GLOOM surpassed what I thought they would do, and for that I’m thankful. Now peep the amazing photos from this night captured by Tiina Liimu!
