CVLT Nation Captures CANNIBAL CORPSE and BEHEMOTH

Text and photos: Sara Power

The first metal show I ever attended was Cannibal Corpse back in 2009. Six years and two albums later, Cannibal Corpse has teamed up with European heavyweights Behemoth, Tribulation and Aeon for a Winter Tour that is decimating cities across North America.

Kicking off the night with their slow, moody melodies and unique brand of metal was Sweden’s Tribulation. Extensively animated and almost frantic, Tribulation set the mood for the night.

Following were fellow Swedes, Aeon. Though their first Vancouver show, Aeon played to an overly-enthusiastic crowd and kicked up the energy to a new level with their crushing, anti-Christian themed death metal.

Lit by only two small flames, Behemoth‘s Nergal entered to a dark stage accompanied by the sweet smell of incense. The tension built, member by member, until the band ripped into their set, with songs spanning their entire discography. After exiting the stage, Behemoth re-entered to a roaring, sold out crowd for their encore songs, sporting horns and hooded cloaks.

Hitting the stage with his usual dripping-wet hair, George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher broke into “Scourge of Iron” immediately. With brutal vocals and obscene lyrics, Cannibal Corpse delivered a tight, flawless, and to the point set. As usual, Cannibal Corpse did not disappoint, and the crowd reflected this, with a punishing mosh pit and an endless amount of crowdsurfers.

There’s only two weeks left in this stacked tour…keep an eye out for it in your city and grab your tickets before it’s too late.
