INTEGRITY VS THE INFAMOUS GEHENNA

Dwid Hellion interviews Mike Apokalypse

Don Ho or Martin Denny?

Although I enjoy the works of Martin Denny I prefer the music of Don Ho. Part of this is because I’m a vocalist so I feel like I tend to focus on singers and their styles. Details like breath control, cadence, range, pitch, tone and inflection in singing voices are sometimes more interesting to me than music. The other reason is because Don Ho was legendary for pounding glasses of scotch while he sang “Suck ‘Em Up”. It’s a little known fact but that was the original inspiration GEHENNA’s “Get Fucked Up”.

Which western band(s) do you feel had the most influence on the early japanese hardcore/metal punk scene? (aesthetically and musically) also if you’d like to offer your thoughts on why/how this/these western bands had such an impact on the early Japanese music scene.

In my humble opinion the biggest western musical influences on Japanese Hardcore/Metal were MOTORHEAD and DISCHARGE. The impact both of those bands had on the Japanese punk scene is unmeasurable. From their sound to their style.

Which of the Manson family girls do you find to be the most attractive and why? What would your dream date consist of with the Manson girl of your choice?

Tough question. There are so many beautiful spirits that are part of the Family. For the most part though Brenda McCann was the one who stole my heart. With wholesome yet dreamy good looks, her angelic voice and razor sharp mind, she would be the obvious choice. In every press interaction she wastes no time in pointing out the problems with a justice system that would convict a man of free thought. She’s tough as nails and cute as a button. I think a dream date with her would consist of a quick aperitif in a bar to exchange formalities and introductions. Then on to a meal of fine dinning and conversation in a Michelin starred restaurant, followed by an walk through the San Francisco while sharing a Marijuana cigarette in the night air. Maybe stopping to view some artwork at a local gallery, or get ice cream cones. Then we would cap the evening off a recording session. I really do think her singing voice is magnificent. I wish I could get her, Squeeky and Blue on a GEHENNA recording.

There has been a lot of talk regarding the possibility of a doppleganger Nick Fiction. If the rumors are true, do you fear that this scandal may drastically affect the upcoming vinyl release of Pale Creation “Twilight Haunt” on A389 Records? How do you think that this false and clearly more brutish Nifi was able to assimilate the identity of the original, more sensitive and rumored to be deceased “original” Nifi transpired? What are your personal feelings surrounding this controversial conspiracy theory?

Nick Fiction and I have talked about this. He brought it to my attention last month. Apparently there are royalty checks (from last years A389 bash) that have gone missing from his mail box. Also copious amounts of empty prescription pill bottles and empty beer bottles seemed to mysteriously fill his house and his trash cans recently. There have also been some weird postings and rants on the internet. At first I was thinking it was a practical joke being played on Nick by our old friend Tony Erba (a.k.a. the Fozzy Bear of Canton, Ohio). As a fan of PALE CREATION, I was troubled by this. So I asked Nick if he thought someone was specific was behind it. He did not know. At that point I tried to put the pieces together myself.

After days of research I came to the conclusion that Nick Fiction’s identity has been stolen by one of 2 people (Maybe even both).

1.) Disgruntled ex-guitarist Mack Shatt.

2.) The German from Vegas, simply known by the letter “T”.

I’ve done my best to help clear up any confusion between the real Fiction and the fictional Fiction. But in this case the lines between the truth and the Fiction are too blurry. The real Nick Fiction is alive and well. The fake Nick Fiction is too though. I’m worried that the Gift Of Art known as “Twilight Haunt” maybe have been altered to now feature Mack Shatt or T on vocals. I hope not but only time will tell though.

Unfortunately, Pale Creation will not be able to perform this year at their A389 fest. What are your feelings about their pale absence? Which band(s) are you looking forward to seeing this year (besides Pale Creation)?

There are a ton of great bands playing this year and I’m excited to see quite a few of them. I’ve been into EYEHATEGOD for years and seen them a couple times and they’re always killer live. Of course you know I enjoy seeing INTEGRITY live and the new songs are great so I can’t wait to see those get played. There are also a lot of bands who I’ve never had a chance to see live like LOW PLACES, FULL OF HELL and YOUNG AND IN THE WAY. With that being said, the band I’m most curious about (besides PALE CREATION) though is probably PICK YOUR SIDE. I really like their e.p.!
