Creepy Christmas Movies… Black Christmas (1974)

Christmas is that time of year when Hollywood digs up whatever flailing, middle aged actors need a last ditch effort at bringing money into the box office and makes them a doddering Dad in a heartwarming and increasingly brainless big-budget holiday movie. Actually, it’s a good indicator of whose career is majorly heading down the tubes when the Christmas movie roster is rolled out. If you didn’t get the message yet, Christmas movies are my least favourite of all Hollywood shitbuckets (with a couple of vintage exceptions). If you feel the same way, but still want something to curl up in front of with your sweetheart and a cup of some warm and boozy beverage, I have a couple of suggestions for you this week. The first is an export from my home country, a Canadian slasher cult classic, Black Christmas. This 1974 independent horror film was directed by Bob Clark, and is considered not only a pioneer of the slasher genre, but it’s credited as one of the first films where the identity of the murderer is left mysterious – a formula for slasher films today. So if you like seeing sorority girls being brutally murdered, and you’re feeling the Christmas spirit, then watch Black Christmas below! Stay tuned for another good one coming later this week…
