CVLT Nation is such a rewarding creative outlet, and it gives me an amazing sense of community, and through the people I connect with, I only meet more rad people. A couple weeks ago, Wes, the singer for Texas’ Dethrone, turned me on to a sick band from Columbia, SC, called APHATOS. They have five songs on soundcloud that are straight mind-numbingly awesome! Every song is a melodic d-beat nugget of pure rawness. I’m so impressed by this band’s music – it gets me hyped on so many levels. APHATOS are not a blues band at all, but the when you hear the guitar work on their tune “CONSTRUCT,” the chords they play have the anguish of the oppressed, with a fighting spirit at the same time. We all know that the 1% are the real monsters of destruction, and this music gives us the power to punch them in the grill. APHATOS’ vocals are in attack mode from the word go, but what is extra awesome is that three people share the duties, which makes for this gnarly sense of crust harmony. Will you be able to find a boring moment within these five songs? Hell fucking no! APHATOS’ compositions will split your skull open with galloping drum beats and never-ending waves of off-the-chain breakdowns. Can you imagine that d-beat was cross-bred with massive amounts of rocking passion? This would only begin to explain how killer this band is. Lyrically, APHATOS are way more than on point – they are the truth. I really appreciate when bands create music straight from the heart, not for money, but because if they didn’t they would go insane. These five songs leave me wanting to hear way more from them. I guess I am in luck, because the word on the street is that they are in the process of doing a split with Dethrone. To all crusty punks: wave your flags of change high and blast some APHATOS anthems while you are at it!
