There is magic floating in the air, & I hear the heartbeat of doom getting closer as the giants awake. I must be dreaming…no I’m listening to the soon to be released Ramesses record, Chrome Pineal, via Ritual Productions on May 16th. This album features three brand new studio recordings & three live recordings. Ramesses creates the kind of music that takes over your soul, imagination & movement all at the same time. When listening to this band, stop what you are doing, spark a huge spliff & turn up the volume. Then their music will slowly start to seep into your pores & melt your brain. Chrome Pineal is an epic piece of sonic art, that with each listen will open another door to the dark places of your being. Each song on this album has a majestic sense of power that acts as a time machine that allows your mind to travel through the fourth dimension. The title track on this album, “Chrome Pineal,” is a wicked psychedelic masterpiece that has an ethereal vibe about it. While taking in that tune, I found myself thinking, damn these dudes are far beyond just being a heavy band, they are on some next level shit of radness. Ramesses flips the script on the third track, singing in a very haunting melodic style, then at the drop of a dime spitting blackened bile all over the dirty groove the band is playing. The track “Men of Honor” is just creepy as hell; everything about this song will slowly crawl up your spine & strangle you. The three live tracks on Chrome Pineal sound even more dangerous than the studio recordings. “Tombs” live sounds like three hell hounds performing demonic doom in the underworld. I don’t care how heavy this band gets, you always hear a layer of putrefied stench in their tunes, which is super awesome to me. You know the drill: light that shit, turn up the volume & lose your mind. After the jump, check out some live footage from Road Burn 2011, a closer look at the album art & killer flicks!
