Manchester is a special city when it comes to music and the bands that have come out of it…I know on a personal level, I can’t even count how many groups from this town have created songs that still move me to this day. I don’t know what it is about this place, but every time I have been there I can feel the tension in the air – this is probably what gives Manchester it’s vibe. Youth culture is king in this town, and in 1989, The Stone Roses ruled the world. I remember when I got their debut album that year, I had it on repeat for about a week straight. This band didn’t play punk rock music in the traditional sense of the word, but something about them, you knew they were playing by their own rules. I have always respected the underdog, and that is exactly what The Stone Roses were, but at the end of the day they came out on top for a minute. If you are a fan, The Stone Roses – Blood on the Turntable documentary is a fucking must see! So after the jump, check out this radical BBC3 film about the rise and fall of The Stone Roses.
