BLUE HUMMINGBIRD ON THE LEFT Review

Triple sick, triple weird, triple gnarly…it’s Blue Hummingbird on the Left. This California band is in an universe all of their own. This band is a part of the Black Twilight Circle collective, which boasts some pretty rad bands: Axeman, Arizmenda among others. These bands create highly original raw dark music, with a focus on the rights & histories of the First Nations peoples. Blue Hummingbird on the Left’s cassette, Blood Flower, is a three song burst of otherworldy ancient black metal that totally pushes the boundaries of sound. On the song “Southern Rules Supreme,” they use really interesting time signatures, plus in the dirgy mix of chaos they have a sinister flute playing that sounds ill! The vocal delivery is very staccato, with a bone chilling gruff vibe happening. The drumming in this band has a raw demonic drive to it that pounds on your soul. Yes, Blue Hummingbird on the Left is black metal, but there is something very punk about this band. You can hear that these humans pour out their black souls with every dark thought of creativity. This does more than just make music, they are masters of the left hand ARTS! Every time you listen to Blood Flower, you will hear something new. After the jump, check out a chaotic live video & some killer flicks.
