Blessed is the Fruit of Thy Womb… Hector Pineda’s Pen and Ink Universe

Hailing from Mexico, artist Hector Pineda works easily in both traditional and digital art formats, but today we’re going to focus on his pen and ink and paint work. Delving into his work is like tearing through the intangible membrane that separates one universe from another, and seeing creation grand scale as it is happening. While some call his work erotic, I think that’s a matter of perspective; there is definitely an erotic element to it, but I see more of the processes of life and death as they pertain to creation and reproduction. The female body features prominently in his work, vulva often exposed and communing with the stars, bodies in symbiosis with the forces around them. There is both decay and growth in his work; he captures the complex relationship the two have with one another, and is a whirlwind of movement and destruction. You can feel the elements of his work bursting out of the surface, as if he’s captured one millisecond of a rapid evolution in all its detail and glory. What’s more amazing is that these compositions do not start with a sketch, they flow from his mind on to the paper as they come to him. He has a vast catalog of different media and collaborations to view on his website, so if you like what you see below, check out the rest of it here.
