Beyond Killer Band!
False Light Review

I can honestly say that the majority of releases I’ve heard this year have been, for the most part, not very great. Sure, there have been standout moments, diamonds in the rough shall we say. Bright, little gems floating around in a sea of underwhelming filler. One of the brightest(and dirtiest) of these gems is the debut EP from False Light. A little band from Charlston, SC, who only has 83 likes on their Facebook page, who put an unassuming EP on Bandcamp for free download, which just so happens to be one of my favorite releases of this year.

Listening to False Light is like being dragged through a sludge filled swamp by a pack of wild dogs. It’s violent, it’s messy, and it’s unrelenting. The recording perfectly matches the vibe that this band puts out, with lyrics about spreading filth and verbal bile towards those unfortunate enough to be on the vocalists shit list. Fuzzy, blurred, über distorted guitars and bass riffs over a booming snare drum and splashing cymbals. When everything is at full blast, it’s a chaotic orgy of noise. False Light do know how to slow things down though, effectively, with some well timed breakdowns and a nearly 6-minute sludge track at the end. The cherry on top of all this though is the vocalist, who writes some fantastic vocal patterns over the music and gives a very honest and raw delivery. Simple touches like the guttural screams in the opening track, “Rotting Teeth” and the subtle echoey background vocals on the previously mentioned final track, “///”, are all done perfectly. If none of this sounds appealing to you, get the fuck out, False Light 2012!! Follow them on Facebook and listen to their EP stat!

I guess when they started getting all the hits from this review, they started charging 7 bucks for their EP (it changed over the course of two hours). Kind of a bummer.

We ran out of download credits on bandcamp. They only gave us 200. Toxicbreed’s funhouse blog has a free download link. Message us on fb for a free patch! Thanks for checking us out and thanks to cvltnation for the review!!!
