If you are someone under the age of 30, chances are you have taken a lot of pictures of yourself. The younger you are, the more photos you’ll have on your phone, laptop etc. of you making various doe-eyed duck lip faces at your own reflection on the screen. When I was a teenager/young adult, digital cameras were new and expensive and camera phones hadn’t been invented yet, so unless you had money to burn you weren’t wasting your film (disposable or otherwise) on arms-length or mirror shots of yourself (especially considering how many you have to take to get that one “effortless” shot that makes it into the Instagram feed). But young Stevie Nicks had money to burn, so she went through a ton of expensive Polaroid film in the mid-70s during her early morning selfie shoots. She recently released the photos to promote her 24 Karat Gold album, and they will be on display at the Morrison Hotel Galleries in NYC and LA from October 10th to 31st. She says of the collection of photos: “I never really thought anyone would ever see these pictures, they went into shoeboxes, where they remained. I did everything – I was the stylist, the makeup artist, the furniture mover, the lighting director. It was my joy – I was the model.” Stevie fans can pick up signed and numbered prints of the photos here. Check out the original Selfie Queen below!
