HOMEWRECKER vs WEEKEND NACHOS
Matt Barnum interviews John Caution

When was Weekend Nachos formed and why?

Weekend Nachos was formed in September of 2004 in the town of Dekalb, IL, the same town where Charles Bronson was formed. Basically, Andy and I were college roommates at the time and we had 2 weird friends that we figured would be cool to start a band with. The objective was to play really fast and also have really slow, brutal heavy parts. Andy and I wrote a few songs together in our apartment and then afterwards we had sexual intercourse.

What and where was the most memorable show experience?

We’ve had a lot of really fun shows over the years, but I think at the moment Bloodshed Fest 12 is still fresh in my mind. It happened exactly one week ago in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, the last show of our 2nd European tour, and it was one of our most well-attended shows ever, with one of the best responses too. Tons of stage dives and singalongs and there was really no where to go in the whole room. My eyes hurt from the sweat and I could barely breathe. I couldn’t believe it.

What are Weekend Nachos’ plans for 2012?

We have a lot we’re trying to do right now. A split LP with Lack of Interest, a 7″ single for a Cowabunga Records single-series, another 7″ single for a Run For Cover single-series, and hopefully our 4th full-length. All of these things may or may not happen in 2012, but currently that’s what’s on our plate with very little room for anything else. We also want to do a few more international tours…hopefully Europe again in the summer and possibly Australia in the fall. Usually money keeps us from doing these things, though. We’ll see!

Who are some bands people shouldn’t sleep on?

Hmm this is a tough question because I always leave somebody out. I’m going to just give you the names of a few great bands that I feel aren’t talked about enough. 2 of them are from Phoenix- Sex Prisoner and Magnum Force. Both bands are absolutely raging and put on very intense live shows. Both of them have self-titled 7″s on To Live A Lie Records. Check them out! Also there is a band from Atlanta called Dead In The Dirt and they are also really fantastic. Really heavy and crushing hardcore the way it was meant to be played from the mid-90’s til now in 2011. I am reminded of bands like His Hero Is Gone whenever I see them play. Really good stuff, look for their upcoming 7″ on Southern Lord. And last but not least, check out The Afternoon Gentlemen from Leeds, England. If grindcore/powerviolence is your thing, well I really don’t think that a better band exists right now. Spazz meets Discordance Axis meets a billion other classics. Fantastic live and on vinyl. Give Praise recently released all of their up-to-date vinyl releases onto one CD. It’s excellent!

What bands are you most excited to see at the A389 show in January?

I’m most looking forward to seeing Pulling Teeth, Homewrecker and of course Eyehategod. It’s a great line-up but if I missed every other band I could still be satisfied if I at least caught those 3. And I’m not saying Homewrecker because you’re interviewing me, haha. Should be a really fun set.
