Why did you start Homewrecker?
We started Homewrecker because we all wanted to play shows, have fun, and help be a house band for touring bands coming through our areas. We never planned on ever being serious it was all strictly for fun, up until we started to tour and experience other elements of being a band that most don’t reach. After growing up listening to hardcore I feel it is more than natural to want to start a band and be a part of music and to make your own personal contribution.
What bands are you currently hyped on?
Masakari is a Cleveland band who recently did a split with Alpinist. It is one of my favorite releases of the year. They just remind me of a more aggressive tragedy. So if you are into that check it out for sure. They also have members in a band called Heartless who are working on a new record also coming out on Southern Lord. A389 also has had a lot of great releases recently. Check out Full of Hell, Hatewaves, Weekend Nachos, etc.
What is Homewrecker currently working on?
Homewrecker just finished writing our 1 Sided LP that A389 will be putting out this Winter! We go into the studio on November 6th. We also plan on doing a 3 week tour up to the A389 Bash!
What’s your take on the current Cleveland hardcore scene?
The Cleveland hardcore scene is legendary, it has produced some great and memorable bands over the years. There are several awesome venues in the area: The Tower 2012, Now That’s Class, The Grog Shop and Gommorah AKA The Church (RIP). We aren’t actually from Cleveland though, we are from a town called Ashtabula. One of our members and a couple friends opened up a DIY venue called West End 2153. They had been dealing with shitty bar owners for years to set up shows and decided they wanted a place of their own. A lot of younger kids are starting to come out and getting more informed on the “underground” music scene. Everyone does their part to make sure the touring band can feel as much at home as possible. While the Cleveland hardcore scene is legendary, the Ashtabula scene is definitely making a name for itself!
What bands are you most excited to see at the show in January?
This show has such an awesome line up. Obviously Integrity! We are stoked to play with Weekend Nachos and Full of Hell again. Great dudes! We’re also stoked to see: Low Places, Hatewaves and Pulling Teeth.
