Acephalix return with “Deathless Master”, the follow up release to “Interminable Night” on Southern Lord Records. This record picks up at the altar of Scandinavian Worship that was set as a precedent on the last release. This is an epic dose of Swedish Influenced-Americanized Crush. At times it feels a bit safe with it’s formulaic song structures, but that’s sorta the allure of all of their associated bands – they are all incredibly infectious and accessible yet still brutal as fuck. For anyone interested in hearing the more punkish side of metal, this is a really good effort. Having began as a crust band, Acephalix’s sound has evolved into Towering Riffs, Mammoth Crushing, and Snarling/Vicious Vocals that tout their hybrid mixture of Dbeat Destruction on “Deathless Master”. Their sounds are a really dingy form of Crust with the brutality and groove of Old School Death Metal, very Bay Area, and very Acephalix.
Back in March, Cvltnation streamed the first single “On Wings” off their new album – you can hear that here.
This to me is the most definitive track on the album, it’s titled “Raw Life”, if you dig it – check out the album and support the artist!
