I could see it in their eyes: something deeper than what was around them, or deeper than what we were being told. The Bay Area peace punx of the early to mid eighties had a sense of community that I had not seen anywhere else. The punx were all about TCB on mad different levels; bands like A State of Mind, Atrocity, Trial, Christ on Parade & Crucifix laid this foundation that many people would be inspired by later. Another thing that all of these bands had in common was a very open mind when it came to creating, be it music, clothing or visual arts. I guess you could say that none of us really confined our ideals to fit into a box that a certain subculture said we had to. I remember the way that the deathrock heads, head bangers, post punk weirdos, sleazy hardcore kids, skate rats & peace punx all bonded about the fact that we were all outsiders. Now out of all of this arose an awesome band called Neurosis, who started off as a hardcore band but morphed into one of America’s most creative heavy bands around. The way that they have kept their d.i.y. values & aesthetic intact for all of these years reminds me of the people I knew growing up. Neurosis is way more than just a band to me, they are tribe humans that have something to give to the world, & they give more with every release & tour. Today, CVLT Nation has gathered some photos from their recent European tour & some of our favorite live footage for all of us to zone out to. So after the jump, let’s fade to black & back again!
