Once again, my favorite holiday is here, and to celebrate Halloween 2013, I want to share another vintage Halloween costumes album! Looking back at how our ancestors dressed on Halloween shows that while we have come “far” in our ability to create creepy images, whether in film, photography or makeup, there was something infinitely more scary about putting a paper bag over your head and dressing in a sack. Plus, you can see a time before rampant commercialism in kids costumes and flimsy, pre-made “sexy” costumes for women. Although I have to say, hearing about people planning to dress as Trayvon Martin this year creeps me out more than anything, just because it shows what depraved, fucked up and soulless psychos they are. All I can say is I hope some paranoid gun-toting hick shoots you (or your family – maybe that would be better karma). Anyway, back to more creative times, when DIY costumes ruled…hope this inspires some of you today!
