NUX VOMICA – Asleep in the Ashes

NUX VOMICA – Asleep in the Ashes (cassette version)
[Aborted Society Records]

This is the cassette version of Nux Vomica’s second full-length ‘Asleep in the Ashes’. It has been previously out on gatefold double LP colored vinyl and CD formats on Aborted Society Records since 2009. And now it’s released as a limited run of 100 green cassettes with color jewel cases. Maybe it’s nostalgia on my part but a cassette release has such a better aesthetic than playing mp3s on an overpriced iPod. There is great thought and energy put into this release. The stunning packaging is done again like their previous by tattooist Jason Angst with very colourful free spirited imagery.

Nux Vomica – The Invasion

There is so much interlacing of moods and diverse styles throughout this album. Opening with classic thrash style riffing it builds and builds into a frenzied pace spat out with severe intensity. The next song has an eerie calm at first and then flows into black metal but still keeping a steady pace. Take a listen to ‘The Invasion’ above, it will give you an idea of the variation. Each song flows into each other perfectly but vary from dirty sludge to bleak acoustic to melodic post-rock. This album is from the heart from beginning to end. All the time maintaining an angry ferocity and beautiful complexity.

NUX VOMICA are currently on tour in Europe. See below for details.
