One of America’s greatest freedom fighters was gunned down in his bed while he slept by the Chicago Police on Dec. 4th, 1969. His name was Fred Hampton, and he was the Deputy Chairman of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party. Everyone who heard him speak knew that he was in line to lead the Party to the next level. FBI Chief J. Edgar Hoover was determined to make sure that this young man never had to chance to unite not only African Americans, but all races. This is why under the FBI’s COINTELPRO program, Hoover made sure that Fred Hampton was silenced.
