Normally, I post about artwork that pushes the limits of disturbing, churns your stomach slightly, or is made out of dead animal parts. But there is some artwork that I like to be fun and lighthearted, as long as it’s still weird. Will Sweeney‘s illustration falls into that category for me. Sweeney is the co-owner of UK brand Alakazam, and has done work for a lot of well-known publications, like Dazed & Confused and The Guardian. I have had the pleasure of attending an opening at the sadly closed Hope Gallery, and the level of detail in his work is something mighty to behold. Each piece has a million things going on, but still manages to create an impression of wholeness. My particular favorites are his pencil drawings, which really show his artistic abilities in their shading and textures. In his more comic book style pieces, Sweeney’s use of color is totally psychedelic, and his subjects are monsters, vegetables and troglodytes. He actually does his own series of comics, entitled “Greenfuzz,” which combine his eye-popping colors and detailed imagery perfectly. I also managed to find some darker stuff of his that is more along the lines of CVLT Nation, but I can’t hate on the crazy psychedelic stuff – I have to admit, it makes me happy. Plus, Will Sweeney is just a cool and genuine guy. So after the jump, take a look at into his crazy mind.
