HAPPY DAZE ARE HEAVY DAZE…ANHEDONIST Review + More

Sometimes I think to myself, maybe I’m a little off my rocker. I love the sunshine, it really makes me feel epic; but on the other hand, I love heavy, dark, slow-moving doom music because it makes me feel epic as well! The Seattle band Anhedonist makes the kind of emotive death march doom that brightens up my humanity. In 2010, they created a demo (an album in my book) called The Drear, which is 35 minutes of mammoth radness. Anhedonist’s songs are long & have different songs that exist within one composition – basically, you will never get bored. Their vocalist sings with a killer scream of agony that has an old world feel. Musically, when I listen to this band, it reminds me of the ancient Nordic countryside & enchanted forests. They have really epic emotional break downs in their songs that leave plenty of room for your mind to self-reflect. On their last song, “The Insatiable Hole,” they hit uplifting chords & all of a sudden it makes sense why heavy music makes my day, because from darkness comes light! Seattle is a magical city; it has the most lay lines running through it than any other city in the U.S., and this energy grid makes the environment magical, & I hear this magic in Anhedonist’s music. Now I have a job for you – after the jump check out their sick live videos & tour dates, & see if they are coming to your town…they should not be missed.
