World In Action…VEX Review

The ghosts of my past help me grow today. 1984 was the year that peace punk & positive punk (aka goth) collided. This was a rad time & a great union – out this period came some awesome bands. One of them was called Vex, and in 1984 they put out a record called Sanctuary on Fight Back records, a Mortarhate sub-label. I totally remember when this record came out; I thought it was so epic & still do to this very day. Vex were a very well balanced band that combined the angst of punk & with the ethereal vibe of positive punk. Trust me when I say this they had some really intense & driving songs, like “It’s No Crime,” which had a Killing Joke energy about it. Their vocalist was so on point & totally commanded your attention with his voice & lyrics. Musically, Vex were masters at creating a dirge boogie that made their songs have an anthem quality about them. 1984 was the year we all listened to loads of thrash metal, positive punk, hardcore & just all sorts of weird shit. Do yourself a favor & find this killer EP by Vex…and you will be happy.

I totally agree with your comments. I saw them live a few times supporting Conflict, I specifically recall at the Ambulance station in South London, and i do continue to play their only release to this day… i also recall seeing in the audience a long haired dude with a Metallica patch across his back, in fact the only patch on his denim jacket, which led to me buying Ride the Lightning..which led to Slayer..
