What is suffering, what is brutal, what is chaotic disorder? I’ll tell you what it is: it’s fucking WAKE. This cold Calgary band has a dangerous 7″ out called Surrounded by Human Filth that I can’t stop listening to. WAKE creates the kind of blackened crusty grindcore that I find awesome. Their tunes have a distinct emotional quality which allows the listener to find their own dark places to crawl inside of. Damn, the drummer is so rad! His drumming can make the million-year dead rise up! WAKE’s singer delivers each word with passion & conviction. The guitar playing on Surrounded by Human Filth is blackened & played with the power of giants. Songs like “Cannibal Design” make this band superdelic. The only problem I have with this record is that it’s a 7″ – I want to hear more!
