Supremely ugly, super diseased, extra burnt – these are just some of the ways to describe the new demo from Ungoliant, entitled Mordred. This Massachusetts horde creates the the kind of punk-inspired USBM that will make you want to give haters the critical beatdowns they deserve. The title track, “Mordred,” is a grim sonic disaster that will peel your skin off. I swear, at times it seems like a swarm of locusts are living in this track. The vocal delivery is fucking chilling, but what really impresses me about this song is the emotive guitar licks that add the right amount of empathy. That’s what Ungoliant are: masters at being themselves and writing songs that drip with filth. On the second track “Conquer”, what you are going to hear are death march drums that are sinister as fuck! Again, the singer attacks this track – it’s repetitive, and that’s the part that will put your mind in a black trance. The last track, “Uther,” is my new fucking anthem, it kicks off with the speed of roaches running away from insect spray, but then turns into a creepy organ ballad that will make you look up to the sky and wonder were the fuck you are. Ungoliant are one of those bands that I would like to hear a full-length, from but i would never want to put them in a big studio, it would ruin the essence of their sound. If you like your black metal with punk vomit all over it, this demo would be just right for you.
