At the most fundamental point of the universe is the goddess, and her esoteric form rules the page in the art of the Malleus collective. This trio of Italian artists use silkscreens to unveil the universe of the occult, where she sits on her throne of bone and life. The colors in their posters tear at your eyeballs with bark covered talons, plucking them from your skull and wrapping them in sinewed ribbons of blood. Each poster is hand pulled, so that every piece is an individual work of art. These artists take the gig poster to new heights, understanding it as an essential form of expression for many underground bands. Malleus have done some of the most striking poster artwork of this century, working with bands like Neurosis, Boris, Eyehategod, The Melvins and Earth, plus for festivals like Deathfest and Roadburn. You can find some of Malleus’ stunning, hand silkscreened posters on their store here. After the jump, explore a handpicked gallery of some of my favorite Malleus pieces.
