Doom

Orchid
Cosmonaut of Three
Official Video

Orchid needs to get out of my head. Their music is already playing over and over again in my brain, which I’m not complaining about, but then they go and make a video for their song “Cosmonaut of Three” which is straight out of one of my teenage forest mushroom trips. I swear, there was this one time I was seeing shit coming out of the walls…ok, we have all been there, don’t need to go there again…but for real, IF I was on mushrooms and listening to this song, for sure this seething, bubbling, blurring light show is what I would be seeing. I would close my eyes and see the painted face of their singer reciting his mantra to me. I would be discovering the dark visions that lurk in my brain and only reveal themselves to me when I am high on that magical forest fungi. Which is why I don’t do them anymore. But watching this video sober is a fantastic trip rather than a scary one…I feel the same awe and revelatory spirit without the accompanying terror, and I feel like I understand the song in a way that I didn’t before, which is the sign of an excellent video. Orchid stayed true to their classic roots with the production, using effects that would be at home in the psychedelic art films of the 60s and 70s, but they keep a modern edge to it with the camerawork. A rad video for a rad song, take a peek below…
