Between 1983 & 1984, punks wanted to be metal heads, and the metal heads wanted to be punks. I’ve got to say, it was a pretty fucking exciting time and some gnarly music started coming out. This is the era when punks started getting into Venom, OZ, Raven, Exciter, Metallica and Slayer. The latter was one of my favorites; since they were from SoCal, I guess I had a certain affinity for them. I totally remember how awesome it was when I first heard “Show No Mercy,” even the album art alone was enough for me to think this band was the shit! They came out with the music that was an all-out war that attacked our speakers. I had this album on repeat for days! Looking back on that era, I’m pretty stoked that punks and metal heads united the way that they did. Makes me really wish I was alive for this era of SLAYER. Show No Mercy/Hell Awaits are the best.
