Hello Necromorphs! We carry on the flood of Prison Tatt reviews as they are undoubtedly one of the most cvlt labels on the planet. Prison Tatt loves dark music. Don’t call it metal, or punk, or hardcore. They love musical filth. If it’s heavy and dark, you’ll find that Prison Tatt records is a one-stop shop!
On this here review, we take on the venerable noise, black metal, punk vitrolic band known as Smoke and their latest release, the Het Laatste Ordeel LP. From the get-go, we’re swathed in a dense curtain of necro noise. The guitar sounds like discordant bass, and the cymbals are loud. It’s hard to tell the riffs apart, as they sound like they were recorded in a sewage tank. The blasts sound just as obscure – you just know when they’re blasting. The riffs clear up the filth some when they jam mid-tempo, and you’ll definitely hear the snare pounding at that point. The arrangements are strange as they don’t sound systematic, so catchy-chorus loving metal fans better sing-along to Anthrax instead. This shit is for necro-production loving underground heathens with no love for the likes of Machine Head.
The three tracks have a runtime of four minutes and greater, and since this isn’t the sort of shit that ends up in Revolver’s reviews, expect your neighbors to hide in their closets when playing this mother out loud. The guitars are caked with so much coagulation you’d swear they are rusty saws taken from an abbattoir. The sound of necro is a distinct flavor, and this stuff is an acquired taste, because even Darkthrone sounds catchy compared to this noise-layered record.
This is excellent work music for the necromorph. Play it for hours, gents. Play it to your guests, then hang them out for barbecue. This stuff tends to sound like perfect misanthropic anti-social metal for the discriminating taste. It’s hard to describe, so listen for yourselves.
I’d like to hear some of this stuff live, but the sound is so obscure, I’m afraid I’ll stare at the stage like my beer came with hallucinogenic mushrooms for appetizers. It would be criminal to pass up a record like this in favor of any Arch Enemy, so light the candles on the candelabra, meatheads. Find a dank, dark tunnel with graffiti scrawled all over the walls and find a dead-end to play this shit in. This is recommended. Horns and tridents sold separately.
