I’m not too impressed with how Anselmo is put front and center in this doc. He is from NOLA, but he really made his name with Pantera (a Texas band). I’m sure that Anselmo isn’t really the whole story. He does have a big name though. Pantera isn’t even a NOLA Sludge band. They were a Glam Metal / “Groove” Metal band. I know Anslemo has been in a number of different projects, but I think there are more interesting Louisiana bands and musicians to explore (Acid Bath, EyeHateGod, Soilent Green, Goatwhore). If they’d expanded the parameters of the doc, they could have included a lot of great Sludge bands outside of Louisiana: Melvins, Weedeater, Mastodon, Kylesa, Harvey Milk, Ufomammut, Knut, Boris, Torche, Old Man Gloom, Electric Wizard, Sleep…….Plus, Phil Anselmo is a racist. He doesn’t deserve the spotlight.
