Some of the biggest punk shows during the 80’s were held at the Olympic Auditorium in Santa Monica, CA and were promoted by Goldenvoice. On the flipside, the Family, which was the Circle One crew, put on rad shows out in Pico Rivera at the Roller Rink. When I think back to all of the insane nights I spent at these spots as a young teen, my mind spins with excitement! Now it’s time to peep Battalion of Saints wreck shop at the Olympic Auditorium, and witness Minor Threat rip shit up at the T-Bird Roller Rink…For all the old heads reading this, share your favorite memories from back in the day. For all of the young heads reading this, you should know that thousands of kids would travel far and wide to be a part of the Hardcore that we all love! The spirit of punk has not died, it’s just beating in new hearts and is full of new blood!

The thing I hate about punk & hardcore or basically any underground music is the instinctive need to champion the lesser known band to sound more well versed. I love B.O.T but if you can even put them in the same league as M.T. You’re fooling you and only you. Songs like ” Seein’ Red”,”In My Eyes”, “Guilty of Being White”, “Little Friend” & “It Follows” murder anything Battalion of Saints wrote.

I prefer battalion of saints but minor threat is undoubtedly more influential. I wish more people would acknowledge BoS though!
