The Master of Black INK!
Raymond Pettibon Art Essay!

Growing up on the west side of Los Angeles during the 80’s meant you spent lots of time with your mom driving you around. I use to have my trips mapped out by Black Flag flyers & posters. I would do the same thing when I skated around – search out walls that would tell me were the next Flag show was taking place. Behind these sinister and mysterious works of art was Raymond Pettibon. As a youngster, some of his pieces used to fly over my head. But I always respected his style of illustration, and from my point of view, his art made Los Angles a more interesting place to live. Raymond has this way of mixing his dark sense of humor into his illustrations that takes his subject matter to a surreal place! When I look back on it, I never knew that I was looking at someone’s work who I consider to be one of the most important artists of my life time! Raymond Pettibon has gone on to show at galleries around the world, and rightly so. Today CVLT Nation celebrates the work of Pettibon, the master of black ink! Drink some black coffee and peep his work after the jump!
